When you can introduce a child to dental care gently, you prepare that child for a lifetime of good dental health. We encourage our patients who have children to bring them in for an initial visit when the child’s first few baby teeth have come in. That way, the child will get used to the sights, sounds and smells of the dentist’s office. We will gently check their teeth and advise the parent if we see any problems that could arise in the future. 

That visit also gives us a chance to advise a parent on the best way to avoid decay in their child’s teeth. Just because a small child’s teeth will one day come out is no reason to neglect their care. Feeding the wrong foods or giving the child sweet drinks at bedtime could cause those baby teeth to experience widespread decay. Working with parents early, we can prevent these problems.
